I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is water still leaking, turn off the tap to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go immediately to the main shutoff valve for your home. If you are unable to find the main valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside your house to depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

Once that’s sorted, give our team a ring, no matter what the day or time is. We will be with you promptly to resolve the problem.

While waiting, remove any important items from the area, and mop up any water or put a container to catch any drips. If you’ve turned the mains water off, switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
