I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If there is water still leaking, turn off the isolating valve to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go immediately to the main valve for your home. If you are unable to find the main valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside your house to depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

While you are waiting for the plumber to arrive, clear away any significant possessions close to the leak, and clean up any water or put a bucket to catch any drips. If you’ve turned the mains water off, also switch off the heating for the hot water as well.
